In the spirit of the United Church of Christ (UCC), members of Scituate’s First Trinitarian Congregational Church have full control of all their affairs. Although we are “in covenant with” other UCC Churches on the South Shore, state-wide, and throughout the nation, we are completely autonomous.
The Congregation hires (“calls”) its Pastor and staff, and establishes its own management and mission. To carry out our mission, we are organized into Officers, the Church Council and Ministry Teams.
The Officers of the Church are the Moderator, Vice Moderator, Clerk, and Director of Finance. These Officers sit on the Church Council along with the Pastor and several other members.
Church Council is responsible for overall management to include strategic planning, coordination, making budget recommendations and, in general, taking the steps necessary to move FTCC toward attaining the objectives of our mission.
We presently have a total of 42 Ministry Teams involved in all areas of Church life and our service to the wider community. The list is always changing depending upon the interest of individuals in the church family and the need inside and outside our doors. Below is sample of some of our Ministry Teams:
The Church School Ministry Team selects and implements the Christian Education curriculum and programming. The Director of Christian Education is the primary staff support for this Ministry Team.
Mission and Outreach Ministry Team leads the mission ministry of the church both in Scituate and the world by reviewing and directing mission giving, promoting mission opportunities and organizing special offerings. The minimum mission giving by the church is 10% of income.
The Diaconate Ministry Team is responsible for guiding the preparation and serving of the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, for providing home communion and for providing guidance for the Pastor on Spiritual Concerns in the congregation.
Appalachia Service Project (ASP) Ministry Team offers the opportunity for teens and adults to go to central Appalachia for a week to make homes warmer, safer and drier for families in need, while offering transformational experiences for families and volunteers.
The Worship Ministry Team bears the primary responsibility to assist the Pastor in making worship a “Joyful blend of Word, Music and Prayer.”
The Fellowship Ministry Team coordinates programs for social interaction among members of the church family.
Interests and Talents Ministry Team develops a program to help people discern and develop their unique gifts and talents in our church community; identifies, nominates and helps place people in roles that match with their talents.
The Properties Ministry Team is responsible for the administration and management of all church buildings and grounds including maintenance, repair and improvement.
Stewardship Ministry Team conducts the annual pledge campaign and inspires and challenges the congregation to give generously of time, talent, and treasure.
Senior Lunch Ministry Team provides Scituate’s senior citizens with an opportunity to gather weekly for fellowship and a good meal.
